Makeup

I feel like I should start each entry with a picture because who doesn't like a little visual with their read?  But mostly because when I post the blog link to my FB page I would like the thumbnail to be something other than the default of my face!

Today's Topic: MakeUp

As promised, I am starting this blog off with a subject that every woman can relate to. No matter how much or how little we wear makeup, we all apply it at some point and I doubt I am the only one that wants to know what brands everyone likes and most importantly, doesn't like.

Whether you "paint your face" daily, or are like me and only wear it for special occasions, I think we all want to look our best and feel comfortable with it on.

So, what brands do you wear? Are you happy with it? Do you mix and match brands or stick to the same one? And because I am running this blog, I will ask a question that I need the answer to - Eyeliner. What brand is best?

Lindsey's Response:

I don't wear makeup often and if I am being honest, I really have no idea what I am doing with the stuff. I am the girl who grabs a liquid foundation at Target and hope it is remotely close to my skin tone.

Recently I decided to take a big step and do my research on a good foundation. By "doing my research" I really mean asking my best friend, whose makeup always looks lovely. She recommended Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I faced my fears and actually walked up to the beauty counter at Macys and let the Estee Lauder consultant find my shade and, I have to say, it was the right move. I have a perfect match and now when I apply my foundation it actually does something for my face!

As for eye make-up, blush, lipstick and all the in between, I still have no clue! That is where you ladies are going to come in! For all of you that know what you are doing, please let the rest of us in on the secret!

Comment below or leave your note on the FB page! If you are seeing this blog for the first time, be sure to check out yesterday's post with a description of what this blog is all about!

I promise that topics will require a little more "brainpower" in the future, but at the same time I plan on throwing in a few of these easy topics as well! Variety is good! Be sure to send in any ideas you have for an entry to LettersToLindseyBlog@gmail.com and hopefully we can get a lot of interesting topics to choose from!

Thanks for taking the time to read the first of hopefully many posts and please get in on the conversation! The only way this blog can work is if readers respond!

Thanks For Reading,
Lindsey

  1. I'm pretty much the same as Lindsey with my make-up routine, only wear it when I'm feeling like doing the extra work. I use a lot of Mary Kay products, mostly because my aunt is a consultant.

For eyeliner I use eye shadow and apply it with an angle brush. It took me a little while to get the hang of it but now that I have it I love it. I use eye shadow for 2 reasons, first the color options are endless second, I like how subtle it is. Liquid liner is too heavy and too much for my light skin.

  2. I use a mixture, and haven't found the "one" that I am in love with still.

I use Clinique concealer, Estee Lauder liquid foundation, MAC blush, Cover Girl Lash Exact mascara, Cover Girl eye liner, and Urban Decay eye shadow. I'm all over the place! I LOVE the Urban Decay eye shadow, but half the colors I won't use because I have no idea how to properly use them. I actually feel kind of dumb putting on make-up. lol. I have not a clue how to do the smokey eyes and forget about lipstick!

I have a free make-up consultation with someone who does Bare Minerals, but I'm waiting to use it when my own supply of make-up runs out bc I know I'm going to want to buy the whole line of Bare Minerals. My bestie uses it and loves it.

I've tried liquid liner and liked it, but it took me too long to apply.

  3. Julie I am EXACTLY the same way! I have wanted that smokey eye look for years and have attempted it numerous times and I just looked ridiculous!

I was looking online at lipsticks and found one from Urban Decay that I liked. Where can you buy that brand from? I thought Macys had it but when I asked the Estee Lauder lady she acted like they didn't and said she thought maybe Target?

  4. I'm one of those women that paint my face daily. As a hairstylist, it is incredibly important that I cosmetically look the part. I love make-up, and I've experimented and tried most popular brands out there. I have to confess the problems that my make-up needs to solve everyday. First, under eye darkness. Patches of freckles/redness must be covered. I sweat when I work. My mascara must be water-proof. That said, here are some of my tried and true best picks:
Foundation: Jane Iredale Bare Minerals - it lasts, stops oil and sweat and doesn't clog pores.
Blush: Jane Iredale - same reasons.
Mascara: I love Mac Intense Black water-proof and if I can't afford it, I always go back either Great Lash by Maybelline (Black water-proof) or MAX Volume Flash water-proof black by Rimmel.
Eyeshadows: MAC or Rimmel depending on what I want to spend.
Eyeliner: Wet&Wild Kohl pencils. I tried them all and none top this 99cent one.
    LipLiner: Rimmel
    LipGloss: Sephora

  5. I'm an all or nothing kind of gal. At work, I border on nothing, but when I'm out for the evening, or special occasions I like to apply quite a bit and really have fun playing around with it (especially my eyes)
    On hospital/class/days off:
Aveeno tinted moisturizer. Mild coverage to even out my skin tones, and maybe a hint of bronzer.
    Going out:
Foundation- Make up Forever Mat velvet
Powder- Make up Forever (these both give really great coverage, without being cakey or heavy looking, plus I think they stand up to longer wear.)
Eyeliner- not really too picky, they are all pretty much the same to me.
Mascara- Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils in 1 High Density Black
Eyeshadow- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE eyeshadow and switching it up. I like the Two Faced Palettes ( I always think they have really pretty shimmery colors)
Blush- Nars "orgasm" it looks really pink in the compact, but it blends really great for me because I'm so fair complected.
Lip Stick/Glosses- anything, I haven't really ever noticed a big difference between what I can buy from the drug store v. something more expensive. Plus, I feel I tend to lose them often so as long as the color is pretty I'm happy.
